Route 53: Woodward

“SB Woodward, 7:45 a.m. Despite the huge snow drifts, my bus arrived only 20 minutes later than what the app said. The snow was pouring into my boots and I would have sat on the bus bench, but it had no shelter and was covered in ice and snow. During the ride, a fellow passenger got an angry call from what I assume was his boss. He pleaded with the man on the phone, saying that he had been waiting on the bus since 5:50 and would be there soon. From the way the other riders nodded their heads, I knew he wasn’t the only one. When the bus dropped me off downtown, the snow on the sidewalk was almost up to the parking meters. I walked the rest of the way to work in the street.” – via email submission

Route 53: Woodward

“I waited over an hour for the Woodward going northbound last Friday evening. Absolutely ridiculous to wait over an hour for a bus on the city’s MAIN line, while millions of dollars are being spent on a rail system that won’t even benefit the people that actually NEED the public transportation system. When the bus finally came, guess what happened? It passed us up because it was jammed packed. I had to wait 10 more minutes for another bus to come. Meanwhile, while waiting for the bus, I saw at least 4 buses going down Woodward going South. I was at Warren and Woodward, which is a hop, skip and a jump from downtown, so once the southbound buses made it downtown, they didn’t come back to go back down the line.” – via facebook submission

Route 18: Fenkel

“Yes I’ve been waiting for the Fenkel bus. There was supposed to be one leaving at 6:57 according to the schedule and it hasn’t came yet. I saw one just drop people off and head to the terminal. This is ridiculous. There needs to be more buses for all the routes, not just some. Thank you.” – via voicemail submission

Route 48: VanDyke

“1/6/15 – got to Greektown Casino for 48 Lafayette/VanDyke heading to 8 mile road around 7:00 pm. Scheduled to leave Rosa Parks at 7:00 pm. Never showed! Had to wait for the 8:00 pm. Outside in the freezing cold wind for 1 hour 14 minutes. Woman waiting at bus stop with me for the last 20-25 minutes said, ‘Oh, the 7:00 pm bus rarely ever shows up!!'” – via facebook submission

Route 21: Grand River

“I went to Grand River and 7 Mile on Sunday. I tried to get the Grand River bus which was supposed to leave at 12 o clock. Then I connect with the Puritan bus which was supposed to leave at 12:20. The Grand River bus was supposed to arrive at 12:15 but the Grand River bus left late. But he did get me there in time, the Puritan bus was running 11 minutes behind on a Sunday with a 65 minute line. I used to drive for DDOT so I know how the systems run. Bus drivers don’t get any time [voicemail cuts out]. Duggan doesn’t care about bus riders. He’s only concerned with downtown. Buying new buses will only replace the old ones, but it won’t improve service. Schaffer bus runs every 55 minutes during the weekdays and on Saturday, and it runs ever 60 minutes on Sunday. Puritan runs once an hour Monday through Saturday and 65 minutes on Sunday. Most of these buses are all the same. These are my comments. Like I said, I’m a former driver so I know how the system is running, should be running.” – via voicemail submission
